“All the national movements everywhere […] seem to take non-democratic forms, [….] and to adopt the theory that the end justifies the means. […] With this go the horrors of emotional nationalism and a tendency to disbelieve in the existence of objective truth because all the facts have to fit in with the words and prophecies of some infallible fuhrer. Already history has in a sense ceased to exist, ie. there is no such thing as a history of our own times which could be universally accepted, and the exact sciences are endangered as soon as military necessity ceases to keep people up to the mark. [….] I think, and have thought ever since the war [against fascism] began, in 1936 or thereabouts, that our cause is the better, but we have to keep on making it the better, which involves constant criticism. Yours sincerely, Geo. Orwell” Letter by George Orwell to Noel Willmett, 18 May 1944
On 24/05/2023 20:00 @ Le Senghor - Brussels and on 26/05/2023 20:00 @ Alter Schlachthof Eupen a brand new composition will be played by the Ensemble Sturm und Klang.
"Nineteen Eighty-Four for chamber ensemble" is a musical narrative based on the novel 1984 by George Orwell and is presented in Brussels by Elodie Brochier in French and in Eupen by Hans Reul in German.
ECCO (European Contemporary Composers Orchestra) concert organised by the Forum de la Création Musicale and Sturm und Klang with the support of the Creative Europe programme.
A unique opportunity to discover the abundant universe of Ziv Cojocaru (Israel, student of Philippe Leroux), the playful energy of Moritz Eggert (Germany), and the intimate poetry of Henrik Strindberg (Sweden). The ten musicians of Sturm und Klang will also present two creations by Belgian composers Sarah Wéry and Christian Klinkenberg, dynamic and unconventional figures in our musical landscape. While the ensemble has already performed two of Sarah's creations, this will be their first collaboration with Christian.

Painter Marc Kirschvink has now completed all 119 pictures of the graphic score of the opera "The Glacier". The pitch is notated exclusively by note heads and accidentals on the lower quarter of the screen, sometimes supplemented by short written explanations or pictograms. These note heads are linked to a corresponding graphic element on the upper part of the screen by using the same color.
Do you want to know what these pictures sound like? The world premiere will take place on October 25. This will be followed by 6 more performances.
